I decided to add the AI Option to my degree during my 3A term of Mechatronics Engineering. Will I complete this option? No idea, depends on if the courses I can take through this option are cooler and more informative than the courses I would just take anyways.
Option Planning
Requirements can be found on the course calendar but in general:
- I need a 60% and I need to complete 6 courses
Required Courses
There are three lists of courses that I need to complete…
List 1
I need to do 1 course from this list Courses I will probably take
- STV 205 is 88% easy and 66% liked, it sounds based on human machine interaction and the role of humans in a dystopian world… (sounds good!!!!) (I’m leaning towards this one)
- MSCI 442 is 91% easy and 47% liked on UWFlow, focused around issues related to the impact of computer based tech, seems to emphasize ethics and security + privacy (comments say its basically a PD course in place of a List A credit, workload is minimal)
- STV 210 is 81% easy and 80% liked, it is about historical and current relationships between computers and society, seems to be about how technology has impact society in different aspects like war, education, and gender (heard its very essay heavy)
I’m going to get this one out of the way in 3B, I’m thinking either STV 205 or MSE 442. It sounds like I’m not going to be able to avoid essays which is unfortunate so its a matter of balancing STV 205 (more enjoyable) and MSE 442 (easier?).
List 2
I need to do 2 courses from this list
List 3
I need to do 3 courses from this list
Obtaining Overrides
It has come to my attention that since CS courses are so popular they are hard to get into… so I should probs stick to courses in my faculty…
