Vector Fields

A Vector is a quantity defined by a magnitude and direction, a Vector Field is a field where there is a vector assigned to each point in space.
Components include: U, V, W which are the (x, y, and z) components of the vector field.

Flow Visualization

We do flow visualization using vector fields using field lines in fluids. See:

• Stream Lines
• Path Lines
• Streak Line These are all the same if they are all steady.

We use the concept of a Reynolds Number in flow visualization
$\mathrm{Re}=\frac{VL}{v}$

• Where $v$ is our kinematic viscosity
• This equation boils down to $\frac{\text{inertia}}{\text{viscosity}}$
