I’ve been casually golfing since I was around 13 years old when my Uncle took me to the driving range for the first time. Since the, I’ve been chasing that perfect swing. In 2024, I played by first couple rounds.
Tips
Some tips that I found work for me on getting those pure hits:
- Keep the club head perfectly in plane by almost emulating a half swing with your arms, with the rest of the movement coming from the torso
- Remember to drive with your hips
- Stand a little wider on drives than you usually do
- Remember to rotate your hips (turning) instead of moving them laterally (I sometimes forget to do this, but its so important for good contact)
- Swing such that you get a pec stretch on your left chest when you finish like the golf influencers
- Keep your stance narrower than you’d think for your driver which makes you stand tall and make better contact with the ball
- Driving
- Lie your club face flat
- Position yourself where your hands naturally fall and grip the club
- You want to push your elbows upwards almost like oyu are over-extending them to keep your arms straight
- Rotate your hips backwards loading them
- Drive down with your hips and follow through
- Ethan says that you should be reaching out in front of you when you drive (45 degrees NE), then cocking your wrist and driving with your hips through the ball… I should try this out at some point
- Keep your arms straight in your downswing, like really tense them!
- Pull your club with your right forearm like your flexing your right forearm, it should feel like a spring when you load it up and release it down (eh this is a hit or a miss)
- Pull your right shoulder blade back like you are doing a dumbbell row and pull the club into yourself and swing down, this creates great contact
- The takeaway: bring your arms straight back with a lock front elbow, the cue for the next part is getting your lead shoulder to touch your chin, your trail elbow should be pointing at the ground instead of flared
- December 14 2024 (Tested in Grandpa’s basement driving range ✅)
- On the up swing, lock the wrist of your lead hand at the top of your swing
- Pull your lead arm backwards in the parallel swing plane so that your lead lat is stretched
- When you made contact with the ball, make sure both arms are straight / locked
- Find where to line yourself up by straightening both arms and seeing where you are positioned to make contact
- When driving, set up such that the ball lines up with the toe of your driver, or line up such that the driver is elevated
- December 26, 2024 (Played plantation preserve, FA)
- The driver tips work really well!
- For irons, remember to compress them left, and swing with your right elbow attached to your side
